Why electrolysis

Laser reduces hair. Electrolysis ends it.

Laser looks for pigment. Electrolysis treats each follicle directly with a fine probe and a small current, so the follicle can no longer grow hair.

Laser made it worse?

Laser can trigger paradoxical hypertrichosis: thin hair grows back thicker and darker, most often on women's faces and necks. It's what started my own electrolysis journey, and electrolysis is the only permanent way to reverse it.

My story & approach

I know how it feels, because I've been there.

As a licensed electrologist, I understand how deeply unwanted hair can affect confidence and self-esteem, especially when it's caused by laser-induced stimulation or hormonal conditions such as PCOS.

My own journey with electrolysis began after laser hair removal triggered my hairs to grow back thicker, a common but often overlooked side effect. That experience inspired my passion for helping others feel free in their own skin through safe, effective and permanent hair removal.

Every session is tailored to your goals and your comfort level.

10 client stories

I have been doing electrolysis with Micheli for over a year for PCOS-related facial hair and it has been 100% worth it. The hair growth has significantly reduced and is much finer; I no longer have to remove hair daily! It takes patience but it is the only permanent solution that has truly worked for me and has made a huge difference in my confidence!

Agnes K.Client since 2024

When I first started researching electrolysis, I only knew it was the only permanent way to get rid of unwanted hair. I spent months reading and watching videos, but honestly, I was so nervous and scared to go through with it. What started as just 3 small chin hairs eventually turned into more because I kept plucking them out. When I finally decided to schedule my first appointment, Micheli took the time to explain how the process works, what to expect and what the results look like. She made the experience feel so much less embarrassing and reassured me that there's nothing to be ashamed of. Her space is comfortable, calm and relaxing, and you can tell she truly cares about her clients. I started going back in February of 2024, and I've noticed a huge difference. Even though I never took photos of my unwanted hair before, I now take photos of my face without filters because my skin is finally clear and free from unwanted hair. If you've been thinking about doing electrolysis and want real, permanent results, please invest in yourself and go to Micheli!

Mariel S.Client since 2024

I've been seeing Micheli for electrolysis for a little over a year and I'm so happy with both my experience and the results! She is always professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about her clients. Her friendly and upbeat personality makes every appointment comfortable and enjoyable. The results have been fantastic, and I love chatting with her during our sessions. I highly recommend her to anyone considering electrolysis!

Maddy W.Client for 1+ year

Micheli is amazing. She is knowledgeable in her work and very detailed. She worked with me for just over a year to help with hair removal. In this time it was a great experience. From her explaining the process and realistic expectations to getting to know her with all the time we spent in sessions. She offers a wide range of appointment times making it easy to keep on a schedule with your sessions. She is very kind and great conversation! Highly recommend! You should absolutely let her help you with your hair removal needs.

Will W.Client for 1+ year

Micheli has been my electrologist for over two years. I have been getting my chin and upper lip treated, and have definitely noticed a big reduction in the amount and thickness of hair! Over time, my sessions have gone from one hour to just 15 minutes. Micheli is always prompt, gentle, thorough, and fun to talk to! I definitely recommend her.

Deirdre Z.Chin & upper lip

I've been going to Micheli for over a year and have noticed a significant reduction in hair growth on my chin and upper lip. My sessions are now only 15 min. It's definitely worth the time and patience. Micheli is very professional and strives to make the process as painless and comfortable as possible!

Vanessa S.Chin & upper lip

In my late 60's I finally decided to do electrolysis. I was actually one of Micheli's first clients. As a very hairy woman with lots of anxiety about my personal appearance, I feel lucky. Micheli was extremely kind and professional. I never felt uncomfortable in her presence. In my opinion, she is awesome.

Before your session

Preparing is simple.

A few small steps help every session go smoothly.

  • Let it grow for 3 days

Hairs need to be long enough to lift out with tweezers after each follicle is treated.

  • Come with clean skin

Moisturized, and free of makeup, oils or heavy skincare.

  • Stay hydrated

Hydrated skin makes insertions into the follicle smoother.

  • Exfoliate

Twice a week is ideal. At least the day before helps release any ingrowns.

Ask a question
What is electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal. A fine probe is inserted into each hair follicle and a small amount of electrical current destroys the hair growth cells. Once treated, the follicle can no longer produce hair.

What does the consultation include?

A consultation is required if you've never had electrolysis, or if you've had it elsewhere but it's your first time with me. We discuss your goals and health history and find the most comfortable, effective settings for your skin and hair type.

It also includes a 15-minute treatment, so you experience electrolysis firsthand and know exactly what to expect.

Does electrolysis hurt?

Most clients describe it as a quick, mild heat or "zap." Everyone's sensitivity is different, but the discomfort is minimal and temporary. I find a level high enough for each hair to slide out smoothly, balanced with your own tolerance.

Most of my clients tolerate electrolysis very well, and some fall asleep. Topical numbing cream can be used if needed.

How is electrolysis different from laser?

Laser targets pigment in the hair, while electrolysis treats each follicle individually with an electrical current. That means electrolysis works on all hair colors and skin tones, including blonde, red, gray and white hair. Electrolysis is permanent; laser provides reduction.

Can laser make facial hair grow back thicker?

Yes. This reaction is called paradoxical hypertrichosis. It happens when laser stimulates follicles instead of destroying them, especially where hair is already thin. The heat can wake dormant follicles or make thin hair grow back thicker and darker.

It's more common in women, on the face and neck, and it often comes as a surprise. Electrolysis is the only permanent way to treat and reverse it. I don't recommend laser on women's faces or anywhere hair is already very fine.

How long does each session take?

It depends on the area and your goals: from 15 minutes for a small area up to 2 hours for larger ones. We'll decide what's best for you at your consultation.

How long until hair is permanently gone?

It varies. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are needed to treat each follicle at the right stage. Most clients notice visible reduction within a few months.

It typically takes 1–3 years for women with PCOS or laser-stimulated hair, and 3–5+ years on average for trans women. Hair density, hormones and session frequency all play a role.

What happens if I miss a session?

Missing an occasional session won't undo your progress, but consistency matters. Regular appointments catch more hairs in their active growth phase. If too much time passes, some hairs grow back before they're fully treated, which slows things down.

Which areas do you treat?

Almost every area of the body, from eyebrows and upper lip to underarms and the bikini line. If you're wondering about a specific area, just ask. I'm happy to talk through what's possible.

How long does facial electrolysis take for trans women?

Full facial clearance realistically takes about 3–5 years or more. I recommend 2-hour sessions (my maximum) as often as possible at first to reach a complete initial clearing.

Scheduling depends on hair density, consistency and budget, so some clients come weekly and others monthly. It's a commitment, and the results are truly permanent.

Is electrolysis covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, no. Insurance classifies electrolysis as a cosmetic procedure, even for medical or gender-affirming reasons, including PCOS and laser-induced growth. I know that's frustrating, and I work to keep treatment as accessible and transparent as possible.
